We provide community-based services to children (from birth through early adolescence) and to their families; to help provide an avenue for success and equal opportunity, while helping to develop safer, caring communities and a voice for all to:
· PREVENT child abuse and neglect by promoting nurturing families,
· EDUCATE those parenting children, providing the skills for success
· ASSIST families at-risk of having children removed from the home or those working toward family reunification,
· CONNECT families to other community resources to achieve self-sufficiency
· ADVOCATE and MOBILIZE the public, private and business community resources to help children and families in need and recognize the results that can be accomplished when we value every citizen and replace skepticism with mutual respect and trust.

Our Parenting Education classes work with families according to the age of the presenting child(ren), using the curriculum of several Evidence-Based or Promising programs, including our newest initiative (July 2009):
The Strengthening Families Program

The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is an intensive multi-session program (14 weeks), focused on parenting skills, children's life skills, and family life skills training . Parents and children participate both separately and together in 2-hour group sessions preceded with a meal that includes informal family practice time and group leader coaching. Appropriate field trips and activities are also included in the curriculum. SFP is rated at the top of the list by international and national review. Outcomes include increased family strengths and resilience and reduced risk factors for problem behavior.

Sessions are led by professional CAPP staff. trained by the SFP national trainer, working with SFP training manuals and other materials, and operating under the direct supervision of Nancy B. Kotz, LCSW, Director of Clinical Services.

Prior to beginning class, the parent(s) must make an appointment to visit with our Intake Specialist. Class schedules are developed as intake waiting lists develop.

The Strengthening Families Classes are held at and with the generous support of the First Baptist Church at 411 Market Street, Wilmington NC 28401. Other class locations are determined at the time of enrollment.

CAPP Center is nearing our 35th year serving this community and population. We know and respect the families we serve and want to help be the catalyst to heal the wounds and restore the hope that resets these children and families on a road to success.
